Matt Ivie passed away on February 8th 2002.
This is how we broke the sad news on AM 970 ESPN RADIO. It was a Friday night and I was filling in for Matt as the Play-by-Play announcer for CSU Stanislaus basketball. The Warriors beat UC San Diego and then I had to break the news...
I saw Matt the day he died. A group of radio people went to his house to visit with him. Matt was on his death bed after a 2 year battle with cancer.
I will never forget seeing him and hugging him that day.
He died 4 hours later with his wife and 4 children at his bedside.

Both of these men died far too soon.
Dave Howie was the Roller King DJ in the 80's and early 90's.

Three months after this call, I was hired part-time to work at Am 970.
My radio career began as "producer boy"
There is a bit of radio noise on this file. I recorded this live to tape from my home stereo in 1999.
